MO SALAH’S impressive season took another turn for the better after he was crowned Confederation of African Football’s best player for the first time.

The Liverpool ace pipped team-mate Sadio Mane and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who came second and third respectively.

He joins a host of famous names to win including Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o.  And he will need to make space in his trophy cabinet after he was crowned BBC’s African Footballer of the Year last month.  Salah, a £34million summer signing from Roma, has excelled on his return to the Premier League this season.

The 25-year-old has remarkably found the net 17 times in 19 league appearances for the Reds with another five in six in the Champions League.

He also played a huge part in Egypt’s World Cup qualification scoring both goals in their crucial win over Congo.

Despite an FA Cup clash against Merseyside rivals Everton on Friday night, the Liverpool pair were given permission to attend the event in Ghana.

But Liverpool want the pair back and have arranged for a private jet to fly them back to Merseyside for their cup tie.

Salah has been ruled out of the match with Sam Allardyce’s men through injury but they expect Mane to jet back in time for kick-off.
