fifa germany Germany’s world cup campaign has gone South after South Korea with almost nothing to play for gave it everything to record a most upsetting win.

All the Germans needed was a goal and in Kroos, Reus, Ozil, Werner, Mueller and Gomez, the defending champions had abounding technical ability to overcome opposition.

But South Korea faced with an improbable mathematical chance to qualify went the way of suicide bombers, holding down the Germans along enough to crash out the tournament together.

South Koreas took in everything from the Germans including a shot in the groin area of a defender capable of wiping out an entire unborn generation.

It always seemed likely a big name will fall out of the big games after Spain, Portugal and Argentina survived a scary last round of matches to heave a sigh of qualification relief.

But it was the Germans who were caught in the net of upsets and dragged out into the hell created by twitter trolls.

Joachim Low sends Germany to a new low with the first-round exit, the first in 80years.

Kroos, the player with the most shots on goal for the German team had at least two good chances to improve his reputation as a match winner but his efforts were denied by South Korean bodies.

fifa2But while the German had great chances, it was actually their opponents, Taeguk Warriors, who had the match-winning traits – passion and determination. For a team that had lost their first two games, perhaps the South Koreans got their passion from the need to revenge the knock-out by Ballack’s goal in the 2002 World Cup semi-final clash.

The Warriors broke out on the counter and added tempo to a game the Die Nationalmannschaft had kept at a low pace. They faced a herculean task to qualify needing to beat Germany and rely on group leaders Mexico to beat Sweden.

But somehow, in a way which was impossible to predict, the South Koreans held their side of the bargain so well for so long and so shockingly, scoring two goals – the last one an embarrasment for Germany after Tottenham star Son had only to stroke the ball into a wide open and empty net.

Mexico-Sweden game gave a shocker of its own after the South Americans suffered a 3-0 loss to the Swedes. The results lifted Sweden to the top as it lifted South Korea from the bottom of group F.

The first half had important flashes of an upset best seen in 19minute when Jung Woo-young’s freekick from 30 yards caused Nuer all sorts of trouble. He spilled it and had to struggle to punch it out of the way of Son.

The Warriors would have to wait until injury time when a nervous German side failed to deal well with a corner to allow Kim Young-gwon to sneak in a goal at the far post after it knocked off Kroos and Sule to fall in his path. The goal was initially ruled offside but VAR intervention helped the referee reverse the decision to give South Korea a shock lead.

By now news of Sweden’s rout had already eliminated the defending champions who just could not believe how they could not convert several yawning chances.

Goalkeeper embodied this disbelief as he abandoned his duties and joined the team in attack. The sweeper keeper who loves to use his feet found himself deep inside the Korean half but he lost possession to a red-shirt who had to launch a long shot going for the net.

But captain Son, the furtherest Korean player followed after the ball which needed to be guided into the net with one simple muscle movement to add more injury to the Germans in injury time.

It was stoppage time goals that stopped Germany in Russia. The team ranked world number one have been yanked off by 57th-ranked South Korea.
